Van der Kunbuurt: participatory urban design

Together with the residents, the social housing association Stadgenoot and the City of Amsterdam, ANA has worked on an urban study into the Van der Kunbuurt. The neighbourhood, built in the 1950s, is located between the Amstel Station and the Amstel river.

The existing homes are extremely outdated. In this study, the demolition/new housing option was examined in order to make it clear to residents, who are allowed to vote on this, how the new neighbourhood might eventually look.

During three input sessions, the wishes of the residents were collected and translated into a number of urban design models in which the wishes of Stadgenoot and the municipality were also included. At the end of 2020, the residents opted, with a majority of 77%, for the demolition/new housing option.
